    Eclipse Weekend Open House

    The Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory will be open the weekend before the eclipse for self-guided tours on Saturday Aug 19 and Sunday Aug 20, 9am-3pm. You may get a FREE ticket for one day.

    Inside the Observatory you may explore:
    -The recently restored Seyfert Telescope
    -A historic collection of astronomy instruments acquired in the 1870’s for the first observatory on campus
    -An interactive 3-D display of the 100 nearest and 100 brightest stars
    -Our large-format Hubble image gallery
    -A 1:5 scale Hubble model which was presented to Congress
    -Our meteorite and tektite collection
    -Plus, eclipse handouts and solar glasses will be distributed while supplies last

    Available outside (weather permitting):
    -Our sundial garden
    -The Star Chamber-a large-scale work of art you may enter and experience as if inside a camera obscura
    -Grassy areas for picnicking (BYOB-bring your own basket)
    -Viewings through a solar telescope

    Ticketing: FREE reservation online. No tickets sold at door.

    Address: 1000 Oman Drive, Brentwood TN 37027 (NOT the main Vanderbilt campus)

    Time: You may arrive and depart any time between 9:00am - 3pm. Please plan to depart before the gates close at 3pm.

    Ages: Recommended for ages 8 and up.

    If your plans change and you can not attend, please let us know so we may release the space to someone else.
