The Vanderbilt Mouse Kidney Imaging Core aims to provide access to traditional and advanced imaging methods for investigators from any scientific background. These include MRI, PET, SPECT, ultrasound, and optical techniques. The Core assists investigators at every stage of the imaging experiments. Our comprehensive service assists investigators with experimental design, institutional animal safety protocols, data acquisition and analysis. The Core provides scientific, technical, and educational resources for investigators to conduct mouse kidney imaging studies.

In order to get started, the Core has created a new project request form to introduce the investigator's project to our faculty and staff scientists. This initial contact will set up a meeting (or conference call) of the project P.I. and associated scientists with the Imaging Core directors and a selection of the staff scientists to define the potential utility of imaging techniques in the applicant's research program and to determine in what way we can help.

This page lists the current "per-mouse" prices for the services offered by the In Vivo Mouse Kidney Imaging Core.

SPECT/PET

Notes:

  1. Each scintigraphy (dynamic or static) requires 1 hr imaging time. Two mice

  2. The cost of radiotracer per mouse depends on the numbers of mice imaged.

  3. Data analysis fee (~$20 per mouse) is not included in the price.
  4. Comprehensive data analysis can be performed on collaboration.
  5. Other tracers (e.g. 18F-FDG) are also available on request.

    quarantine housing.

MicroCT

Notes:

  1. The scan time may change with the investigator's project.
  2. Vascular imaging (microCT) requires the microfil-perfusion of kidney and 3 hrs scan. If the investigator prepares the samples, the microfil agent and a perfusion protocol can be provided by the facility.
  3. Data analysis fee (~$20 per mouse) is not included in the price.
  4. Comprehensive data analysis can be performed on collaboration.
  5. External users need to pay additional fee for animal transfer and 6-week quarantine housing. For ex vivo microCT scan, external users can also ship the samples to us.

Cancellation Policies

If a scheduled experiment needs to be cancelled, it has to be done 3 days in advance or replaced by another paid study. If none of these actions are taken, scheduled charges will be incurred.

Charging Exceptions

  • If the equipment or technique fails to run for an experiment that has been previously tested.
  • In the event that technical assistance was not available.
