Flu on the rise; here's how to get a flu vaccine to protect yourself, your family and patients

As the number of influenza cases increases throughout Middle Tennessee, the Department of Infection Control and Prevention and the Occupational Health Clinic (OHC) are urging all faculty and staff to get an influenza vaccination.

A Vanderbilt faculty/staff ID badge is required to receive the vaccination at the OHC, 640 Medical Arts Building, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays and at all offsite vaccination events (more information available at

If you receive a flu vaccine elsewhere, be sure to complete the self-report documentation form so your flu shot will be documented at Vanderbilt. To check your flu vaccine status, visit .

The OHC will also be set up at Langford Auditorium Friday, Dec. 14, from 1-6 p.m. during Vanderbilt’s Holiday Gift Giveaway.

“As influenza spreads through the region, vaccination is more important than ever, said Melanie Swift, M.D., director of the Vanderbilt Occupational Health Clinic. “Getting flu means absence from work and a miserable holiday. And our health care workers who are on the front lines are being exposed to flu on a daily basis. Everyone needs to get vaccinated to avoid getting sick and spreading flu to others.”
