HPV vaccine and cervical cancer screening to be topic of presentation tomorrow

"Development of an HPV Vaccine and Cervical Cancer Screening Healthcare Provider Intervention" will be the topic of a presentation Friday, Feb. 1, at 8:30 a.m. at the Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center, 1035 14th Ave. N.

A participatory process of intervention development in a partnership of researchers at Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University and three community health centers (CHCs) in Nashville, Memphis and Chattanooga will be presented. Findings will be reported from focus groups with African-American and Hispanic mothers, fathers and daughters, and interviews with providers from the CHCs and Meharry.

The team is using these findings and input from partners to develop an intervention for health care providers to use with patients to encourage receipt of the HPV vaccine in daughters and appropriate cervical cancer screening in mothers and daughters.

Presenters are Pam Hull, Ph.D., assistant professor of Medicine, and Maureen Sanderson, Ph.D., professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Meharry Medical College and adjunct professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt.

A light breakfast will be provided.
