VUMC to open separate office for export control matters

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is committed to an open learning and research environment so that ideas can be published and exchanged freely among faculty and staff both in the United States and abroad.

However, instances may arise in which some VUMC research or activities will involve the sharing and/or transfer of technology, information, materials or equipment that may be subject to U.S. export control laws and regulations.  Even though most research conducted at VUMC is not subject to export control restrictions, it is important for the VUMC community to be aware of these federal laws.

VUMC’s export control guidance and institutional resources are available to provide assistance to all faculty and staff with determining when export control requirements apply and how to ensure compliance with these complicated laws.

Due to the legal separation and transition, Vanderbilt University and VUMC will each have separate central offices for export control matters. VUMC’s new central office for global collaboration and support services, including export control oversight and expertise, will be located at 2525 West End Ave., Suite 750. VUMC Export Compliance will have a website located at https://medschool.vanderbilt.edu/oor/exportcompliance. This website will be available beginning Saturday, April 30.
