VUMC in the news

A roundup of a few recent stories from the press about Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

HLN interviewed William Schaffner, M.D., professor of Preventive Medicine, live on Monday from the VUStar studio for a story about Hurricane Harvey and people stranded in high waters, what diseases they could be exposed to and how to get medication to people with medical conditions who may have lost their medicine in the flooding. LiveScience staff writer Sarah Miller and The Huffington Post also interviewed Schaffner on this topic.

Time reporter Markham Heid also interviewed Schaffner for a story about vacation illness, and why people may be more likely to get sick while on holiday.

Jordan Berlin, M.D., professor of Medicine, is quoted in a Healthline story about survival rates of cancer patients who opt for alternative cancer treatments.

The Tennessean published a feature about a Dickson teenager receiving a heart transplant at VUMC last year, and that the donor was a teenager from White Bluff who died in a car crash.
