Updates and changes within eStar announced

Included below is a summary of some of the largest changes within eStar over the last several days (as well as some that are scheduled to be completed soon):

PHQ-9 Depression Questionnaire

Changes have been made to the PHQ-9 Depression Questionnaire to ensure it is functioning properly. This change ensures that the PHQ- 9 score is accurate and ensures correct reporting.

The system will now require that all questions of the PHQ-9 Depression Questionnaire are answered before a score is calculated. If responses to the first two questions (PHQ-2) indicate the patient negatively presents for depression, eStar does not require the rest of the questions to be answered.

POC Testing

Beginning May 31, messages regarding results of certain point of care (POC) tests will no longer be sent to an ordering/supervising clinician’s InBasket. In addition, all historical POC test results (from the list below) will be removed from InBaskets. This change has been made to decrease clinicians’ InBasket message volume and remove redundancies.

POC test results should be reviewed during the usual course of patient care, so sending results to InBaskets was redundant and created additional volume. POC results will continue to be available in the Lab Results section of patient chart.

Result messages for the following POC tests will no longer be sent to InBasket results folder:

  • POC ACTIVATED CLOTTING TIME
  • POC BLOOD GASES-HANDHELD

Automated Sending of Discharge Summary

A change is upcoming that will allow Discharge Summary notes to now be faxed automatically to patient’s primary care physician or other external referring clinician. As a result of this change, clinicians will no longer need to manually fax Discharge Summary notes. This change will continue to improve communication with external referring clinicians—one of the primary efforts around eStar stabilization.
