Vanderbilt Health to open adult clinic for transgender health on Aug. 24
Vanderbilt Health is opening a new adult Clinic for Transgender Health on Aug. 24.
The multispecialty clinic provides comprehensive health care services for transgender patients age 18 and older allowing them to receive their care in one location, including primary care and subspecialty consultations with endocrinologists, mental health experts and surgeons.
Board-certified Vanderbilt physicians and nurse practitioners will see patients by appointment on Fridays, 1–5 p.m., at the Bellevue Walk-in location, said medical director Shayne Sebold Taylor, MD.
“This new clinic allows us to meet our patients where they are in their journey and help them with the resources they need,” she said. “I can help them access Vanderbilt’s specialists allowing us to coordinate their care wherever they are in the transition process.”
Services offered at the clinic include hormone therapy, lab monitoring and pre- and post-operative guidance with plans to add a mental health provider. While Friday afternoon clinics will be reserved specifically for transgender health care, Taylor will provide comprehensive primary care to LGBT patients during regular clinic hours, Monday through Friday, offering preventive medicine such as immunizations, HIV prevention, and cancer screening with special attention given to nutrition, healthy lifestyle and chronic disease management.
One Friday per month, the clinic is dedicated to surgical patients when a team comprising urology, plastic surgery and gynecology are present to discuss patients’ varying surgical needs.
“We are at the cutting edge within this field and there are a lot of opportunities to figure out how we deliver this complex care in a way patients value that helps them achieve their individual goals,” said the clinic’s assistant director Adam Huggins, MD, assistant professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology.
The Clinic for Transgender Health is located at 7069-B Highway 70 South in the Bellevue Valley Plaza, at the intersection of Highway 70 South and Old Hickory Boulevard.
