New Trauma and Emergency Medicine Series to Feature VUMC

Vanderbilt University Medical Center will receive national visibility as its Division of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care and Department of Emergency Medicine are featured on The Learning Channel (TLC) on Sunday, Dec. 27, at 8 p.m. CDT, when TLC airs the pilot episode of a new series titled, Emergency Level 1. This episode will repeat at 11 p.m. CDT.

The action-packed episode features Richard Miller, M.D., professor of Surgery in the Division of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care, Kyla Terhune, M.D., R-4 in the Department of General Surgery, Jeremy Brywczynski, M.D., assistant professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, and Benjamin Heavrin, M.D., assistant professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, as they go through busy days treating patients.

In addition to footage of trauma and emergency medicine practiced in real time, the program also features interviews with the doctors and patients, and computer-generated illustrations which take the viewer inside the body to demonstrate injuries and treatment protocols.

This episode is the first of three pilot episodes of the new series, all filmed at VUMC during September and early October. Tentative air dates for the second and third episodes are for the evenings of Sunday, Jan. 3, and Wednesday, Jan. 13. Updated information about air dates and times for these episodes will be made available through MyVUMC.
