Women's Health Nursing Fellowship Program to Launch March 1

The Women’s Health Nursing Fellowship Program will begin accepting applications March 1, and the start date for the program will be July 12. If you would like to read more about the program, please go to http://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/root/vumc.php?site=vanderbiltnursing&doc=27930

Fellowship overview
The Women’s Health Nursing Fellowship is a fulltime, 15-month program designed for internal Vanderbilt staff RNs with a minimum of one year of full time Vanderbilt University Medical Center nursing experience, who are in good standing and are eligible to transfer via the Transfer Policy (HR #008).

The program will provide in-depth clinical/classroom orientation to the selected staff members giving an overview of each of the women’s health domains (Labor & Delivery, OB/GYN in-patient unit, and Center for Women’s Health Outpatient Clinics). Qualified candidates should be interested in transferring to a Women’s Health position. The program curriculum will require each participant to complete a clinical quality or evidenced-based project.

Fellowship goals

• Develop highly skilled perinatal nurses who can meet the needs of a high-risk population in a tertiary care center.
• Develop skilled teams to provide mother-baby care.
• Provide growth opportunities for VUMC nurses who want to move into women’s health.

Eligibility requirements
The Women’s Health Nursing Fellowship will be open to all internal Vanderbilt University Medical Center staff RNs with a minimum of one year of full time employment in a VUMC nursing role, who are in good standing (not currently on a Performance Improvement Counsel plan), and who meet the transfer eligibility requirement. The one year of full time experience should be completed by the start date of the Nursing Fellowship.

It is vital to the success of all staff hired into the Women’s Health Nursing Fellowship Program to be available for the clinical rotation weeks or any unit specified orientation. Due to this, any requests for personal leave that would impact these critical times will be denied. Please refer to http://hr.vanderbilt.edu/policies/hr-012.htm (HR Policy 012) for questions regarding personal leave such as eligibility requirements, length of leave time available and pay status. Once the Nursing Fellow is matched to his or her unit, negotiation for time off during orientation will need to occur with the manager/supervisor of that department.

Application process
• The application process will begin March 1. Interested VUMC employees will be required to submit a completed application packet no later than April 1, by 5 p.m. Incomplete or late packets will not be accepted.
