Thank you for your interest in our innovative ACGME-accredited one-year critical care fellowship in Anesthesia Critical Care Medicine (ACCM). We are committed to providing the highest quality training and education in multiple specialized surgical critical care units and provide a depth and breadth of experience found few places else. Our goal is to train the future leaders, educators and innovators in Critical Care.
Your clinical experience will include ECHO/TEE and rotations through Surgical, Burn, Trauma, Cardiovascular and Neuro ICU’s at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and a mixed surgical ICU at the Tennessee Valley VA. Our elective ICU rotations include Medical and Pediatric ICU, and non-ICU electives include radiology, nutrition, nephrology, cardiology, palliative care, infectious disease, research and many others. We also provide international anesthesia and critical care opportunities through the Vanderbilt International Anesthesia program.
The Vanderbilt University Anesthesia Critical Care Medicine fellowship has a strong didactic component that includes system-based pathophysiology, ultrasound, journal clubs, problem-based learning, board review, morbidity and mortality conferences, research, simulation and hands-on courses such as ATLS and echo boot camp. We strive to provide fellows with insights and skills to manage ICU environments and develop skills to perform quality improvement projects and research which impact outcomes in the ICU.
Our fellows are expected to complete at least one academic project with a faculty mentor during their fellowship year. Our faculty are willing to facilitate this research process with a variety of different research ideas and ongoing projects. A fellow can also pursue an advanced research degree by doing a second year to complete a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI). This is a master’s program designed to pair young investigators with established mentors to further education in statistical analysis and clinical trial design.
We look forward to hearing from you soon, and thank you for your interest in our program.
