The Kidney Injury Core provides useful murine models of acute and chronic renal injury to test potential therapeutic interventions.
The Core will provide investigators cost effective testing of potential pharmaceutical or immunologic therapy strategies in appropriate mouse models of acute or progressive renal injury. The Core will also provide protocols for testing potential renal side effects of drugs in mice. The mouse models available in the Core include certain unique mouse models of disease that have been developed by VKDC faculty. Following initial contact by interested investigators, the investigator and the Core leadership will jointly decide on the optimal model(s), number of mice, dosage, frequency and route of administered agent and time period to be tested. Renal physiology studies, histologic analysis and tissue preparation will be coordinated with the respective Cores. In general, both functional and histologic analysis will be offered. The Core will provide initial screening but is not designed to perform specific customized studies.
